Lagoa azul is the best spot
in the area of Jericoacoara
Both are actually just next to each other, and as we soon found out, kiting here was much better then on the Prea. Freeway had given us the contact of Paolo and Fernanda, who own a Pousada located directly next to the Lagoa do Paraiso. Since the wind usually only gets strong enough to kite around two o’clock, we had time to eat a nice brunch to energize for our exciting kiteboarding afternoon in paradise. Arriving in Lagoa do Paraiso, we found a wide beach offering side-shore winds between 16–20 knots. We kited the entire day, and the waters of the lagoon and the surrounding area really looked like a paradise, which explains the name Lagoa do Paraiso!
There are basically four spots on the Lagoa do Paraiso for kiteboarding, depending on the time of the day and the prevailing conditions. In the morning, the best spot is either near Jijoca¯the main town in the area¯or directly at the Pousada do Paolo. In the afternoon, kiters are advised to go farther west, where you find many wide beaches offering enough space for launching and landing.
Lagoa Azul in our opinion offered the best conditions for kiteboarding in the entire region of Jericoacoara. This was due primarily to the shallow waters and less gusty wind conditions.
