Lagoa da Risada
the lagoon of laughs...

The next morning we decided to check out another lagoon called lagoa da risada – lagoon of laughs (we later discovered the origins of its namesake), located farther north of the national park. The drive to the lagoon was yet another adventure by itself, but given the directions of the guide we did not have problems finding the lagoon and did not get stuck in sand or water. We drove through some really steep and tight trails to get to the edge of the park. The lagoon itself was a five-minute walk from the place we parked the truck, and as we got there, the wind was blowing constantly at 13 knots…more or less. In any case, this lagoon was much wider than the other ones we had seen the day before and the wind, blowing side shore was just perfect for the Rhino 20. Due to the larger sand dunes situated to the north and south sides of the dunes, the wind was being compressed and entering with perfect force. We filmed and photographed the scenery and kiting. Both were far better than what we saw and experienced on the first day. Just amazing! The water was light green, and you could see your shadow on the ground of the lagoon while kiting. The only sounds came from the wind and from the water being splashed by the board. This sound would even get stronger as you approached the sand dunes on the left and on the right…the sound would bounce back and force and we were even able to kite up the dunes in some occasions…fantastic.

After this splendid day kiting in one of the most beautiful natural areas, we packed our gear together, sat down and watched the horizon while the sun was setting down behind the lagoons and sand dunes of the Lencois. What a day. . .it just does not seem like there could be anything better than this.

The ride back to Barreirinhas though, was another story. Although we took the same trails, the sun had already set and our visibility went right down, especially when we started driving through the ditches again. We filmed it all, not having the patience to take pictures, but I can tell you that to drive through the same ditches, which a day earlier almost ruined our trip, and at night, provokes a very special set of emotions.

The guide told us where we should pass, but this wasn’t enough to keep us “tranquilo.” In the end nothing bad happened, and we arrived safely in Barreirinhas and spend the night in the Resort Porto Preguicas, which was the perfect place to relax from the adventures and sports we had experienced in the past few days…
